Solid Foundation
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25, NIV)
On my running route, I passed a dilapidated house. Weathered and worn, it looked like nobody had taken care of it for years. Then, one day as I was running through the neighborhood, a huge bulldozer leveled the house to the ground. Nothing was left. NOTHING. Then, one year later, I circled by the same neighborhood to find a massive stone house constructed in its place. It looked sturdy and strong – able to withstand any storm.
Our foundation is crucial. Only a solid foundation built on Jesus Christ will last. We can’t build our foundation on money or success. That will not last. We must build a firm foundation on Jesus. A timeless hymn, a timeless truth: “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
In Matthew 7, Jesus is sharing this truth with His disciples – how important their foundation is. He knows what lies ahead for them and the trouble they will face. They should listen to His words and heed them, so when the time comes, they will know what to do.
Often times, you will see people’s true colors – not when things are going smoothly or right, but when they face hardships. Problems and trials will quickly reveal those who have put Jesus’ words into practice. It will show whether or not someone has a firm foundation.
Are you reading God’s Word and putting it into practice? Spend some time in God’s Word today. Build a firm foundation – so that when difficulties come, you can act in such a way that brings others to know Jesus.
Prayer: Jesus, You are our hope. Our hope is built on nothing less – than Your blood and righteousness. Thank You for dying on the cross for us – for all of what we’ve done wrong – so we can be in a right relationship with God our Heavenly Father. Grow me closer to You Lord today as we spend time in Your Word. Come Holy Spirit. Fill our hearts and open our hearts to what You want us to learn today. Thank You Lord that when we build a firm foundation in You, we can never be shaken. Thank you for Your joy, Your peace, Your strength. Amen.
May God reveal new things to you today as you seek Him with your whole heart! He is faithful. I’m praying for you!
