The Ultimate Snowplow

The Ultimate Snowplow

“Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7, NLT)

Lately, we’ve been experiencing quite a bit of snow here in North Carolina. It brings back memories of when I lived in Rochester, N.Y. It seemed it would snow from October through April, even May. I was working in television news while I lived there and during snowstorms, we couldn’t stay at home. The news never stops, and that meant, I had to head to work. I remember blinding, white-out conditions that made your heart beat out of your chest as you were driving. I’d grip the steering wheel and pray that God would help me get to my destination safely.

I’d always be on the lookout for a snowplow – that big bright yellow sight in the midst of a blanket of marshmallow white. It was always a sigh of relief. If I got behind the snowplow – I knew I would be safe. That snowplow would clear away all the snow, dirt, ice that was in the way and making life a mess.

Think about this – Jesus is our ultimate snowplow. When we keep our eyes on Him and follow Him closely, He clears our path and makes our way safe. He cleans up all of our mess – all of the problems and sin in our lives.

“Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7, NLT)

Psalm 20 is considered a royal psalm, where the king is a prominent figure. It’s a prayer spoken by the people, the king and the king’s army asking God for victory in battle.

“Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.” (Psalm 20:7-8, NLT)

If we look at verses 7-8 together, we get an incredible picture. It shows the difference between those who trust in their own strength and their own resources and those who put their hope and trust in The Lord. David, who wrote this psalm, gained confidence when he meditated on God and His attributes. The name of The Lord points to His character, His nature. When we put our trust in Jesus, God will give us victory.

Storms of life will come and when they do, they can make you feel powerless and weak. Remember – quickly get behind the most powerful snowplow there is – JESUS. He will clear up the mess around you and keep you safe.

PRAYER: God, thank you that You are omnipresent. You are everywhere. Thank You for Your presence with us today. Lord, we thank you for creating the beautiful snow outside this winter. Help us to soak in the majesty of who You are. Father, for those that are going through storms, not just winter storms, but storms of life – please be with them. Be their snowplow to clear away all the mess that is in front of them. Lord, we thank You that, even in the midst of storms, You are in control. We trust in You that You will bring us through those storms of life and You will use it for our good. In Jesus’ name we pray – Amen!

We hope this encourages you. Praying for you today that you would draw closer to Jesus and make Him the snowplow of your life.
