Share Your Faith Using “Steps to Peace”: Step 2 – The Problem

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6:23, NKJV

Last week we looked at Step 1 of the impactful Gospel tract Steps to Peace with God. In it, we saw God’s purpose for each of us as His creation. He loves us and wants us to experience peace and eternal life.

That could cause one to ask, “Well, if God loves us and wants us to spend eternity with Him, what’s the problem?” This brings us to Step 2, which we’ll look at today as part of our series on the Steps to Peace.

STEP 2 – The Problem: Our Separation from God

God created us in His image. He gave us a will and the freedom of choice; we choose to disobey Him and go our own way. This separates us from God.

The Bible says:

  • “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
  • “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

People have tried to bridge this gap between themselves and God.

The Bible says:

  • “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
  • “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2)

No bridge reaches God … except one.

Check back next week for STEP 3 – God’s Bridge: The Cross.
