God with Us

God with Us

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6

The Advent season is now upon us. Advent is a four week period before Christmas that celebrates the anticipation and coming of Jesus. The word “advent” comes from the Latin word adventus, which means “coming” or “arrival.” This is a time where we celebrate and remember the birth of Jesus, but we also anticipate Christ’s second coming.

With all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season quickly approaching, we can get caught up in all the parties and planning, the decorating and dinners, and the presents. Instead, we should really try to focus more on the “presence” of Jesus.

During this Advent season, why not make an intentional effort to grow closer to our Savior. Do you need His presence today? God is with us.

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” –Isaiah 9:6

The prophet Isaiah announced the birth of the coming Messiah – seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus. He delivered it as an encouragement to the people of Israel while they were facing a growing threat from Assyria. Seven hundred years they had to wait. But God wanted to give His people hope for the future to sustain them through difficult times. God wants to give you hope through difficult times, too. We can lean into Him and be encouraged because of who God is:

“And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

According to Isaiah, this King would have several titles. He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

He is a Wonderful Counselor. Wise and perfect counsel is necessary for a king.

He is Mighty God. He will defeat the enemy and will implement supernatural strategies to defeat His enemies.

He is Everlasting Father. His reign will never cease and will show unconditional care and love for His people.

He is the Prince of Peace. He will bring a peace that surpasses all understanding to all who believe in Him. He brings tranquility in troubled times.

Are you facing a difficult situation right now? Cling to Jesus knowing He is a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Prayer: Father, as we come into this Advent season, we are so thankful that You sent Your only Son into the world to save us from our sins. Now, we eagerly await Christ’s return again. You know, Lord, what each person is going through right now. Please give strength to those who have grown weary. As Wonderful Counselor, please give wisdom to those who are facing tough decisions. We thank You that You are a Mighty God – ready to defeat the enemy – as we know that You will have victory in the end. Help us during our times of trial to have strength and peace. Thank You that You are our Everlasting Father – You are the same today, yesterday and forever, and we are so thankful that You care for us and love us. And thank You that You are the Prince of Peace – please give us a peace that surpasses all understanding in every situation we face. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

We hope and pray that during this Advent season, you will grow closer to Jesus. Be encouraged today! We are praying for you!
