About John Parrish & Trish Lancaster

Facilitator: John Parrish

John Parrish leads Guided Personal Spiritual Retreats at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove. His personal mission is to enable others to think deeply, choose wisely, live godly and to intentionally multiply others to do the same. John serves as the Executive Pastor of Ministries on the staff of Missio Dei Church in Asheville, North Carolina, and is also an elder at this ACTS 29 congregation.

In addition to assisting with Guided Personal Spiritual Retreats at The Cove, John also serves as a Pastor in Residence for various Cove seminars and events. Since 2010 he has served on the board of On Eagles’ Wings Ministries – a ministry that provides a safe haven for minors caught up in the sex trafficking industry. He also serves as an on-site mentor with Arrow Leadership Ministries in Vancouver, BC.

The former Director of Programs at The Cove (from 2005–2012) and Manager of Program (from 1994–2004), John's responsibilities have included management of the Cove's training seminars and oversight of the programs, speakers, emcees, worship leaders, workshops and small groups.

John's love is to be a trainer, resourcer and encourager to Christian ministry leaders. He has previously worked with Evangelism Explosion International and served as the Director of Leadership Training for Serve International, a relational evangelism training ministry in Atlanta. He co-authored the book and video curriculum Best Friends: Developing an Intimate Relationship with God published by Word Publishers. While in Atlanta, John established the Atlanta Small Groups Pastors' Forum; he has continued this ministry of training small group leaders in his home church in Asheville.

Ordained as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America, John is a graduate of Covenant College (B.A), Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; Gordon-Conwell Seminary (M.Div.), South Hamilton, Massachusetts; and Arrow Ministries (2001), Vancouver, Canada. He completed his Doctorate in Ministry in Christian Leadership with Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina.

John and his wife, Phyllis, have two adult children and two grandchildren. John enjoys hiking on the Appalachian Trail, motorcycling on the Blue Ridge Parkway, fishing, reading and the History channel. The Parrishes live in Asheville, North Carolina.

Women’s Mentor: Trish Lancaster

Trish Lancaster serves as a women’s mentor for female Guided Personal Spiritual Retreat participants at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove. Trish brings to this role a heart for encouraging women to make God-honoring choices in the midst of their daily struggles as well as in the midst of their greatest trials. Through practicing prayer as a lifestyle, she hopes to inspire others to have a deeper connection with God. A graduate of Furman University with a major in psychology and minor in business, Trish has had a broad variety of work experience in areas which include management, training, retail, and the service industry as well as several years of homeschooling and homemaking. She currently works part-time in the children’s department of her church and serves as their Awana Commander. Trish’s ministries include Moms In Prayer, Café Connect (a casual coffee book club), and mission trips with the youth in her church. She enjoys birdwatching, exploring small towns, and visiting local arts & crafts exhibits. Trish and her husband have two children and live in the Asheville area.
